Linking Phase 1 and Phase 2

Objectives

At the second decision node meeting, the management (board) will decide upon the finalised project plan and the estimated potential of the PSS project, based on the finding of the steps executed in Phase 1.

This decision nodes deal with:
    • quality of execution
    • validation of demonstrable business rationale
    • quality of the overall project plan
    • action plan for phase 2

At decision node meeting, the management (board) will decide on continuation to the next phase and give recommendations in the execution of this phase, based on the company and market analysis studies executed and the detailed project plan.
Involved
PSS project team delegation:
    • PSS project leader, accompanied by a core team member
Management delegation:
    • Responsible Management (Board) member accompanied by selected staff, board members or external adviser/referees (e.g. university professor)
Facilitator?:
    • The presence of an independent facilitator could result in an honest and open decision process in which bottom-up and top-down approaches are both fully respected (and best serve the revolutionary - and potentially disruptive - character of the PSS innovation project).
Input
Presentation by project team delegation of the results of phase 1 (e.g. PowerPoint or Mindmap).

This presentation is the basis for further discussion with, and validation by, the management team delegation concerning progress and choices.  In this decision node, key inputs are:
    • Key findings of strategic analysis
    • Important market and societal trends for the company
    • Expected potential of PSS innovation project in relation to the company’s business case
    • Global version of system map and system inter-relationships
    • Proposed revisions in PID
    • Final Project Plan
Output
Results of this decision node are:
    • Decision: go/hold/go-back/stop
    • Approved final project plan
    • Reviewed system plan
    • Reviewed strategic analysis
    • Identifying a senior management champion (contact person of the management (board) for first contact by the PSS project leader).
    • Approval for entering the next phase, with management’s guiding recommendations
    • Date and deliverables for decision node 3 meeting
